A few iPhone shots...

Took a bunch of iPhone shots with Camera+. Really put it through its paces for sure. Many, many more on the DSLR, though. Some incredible close ups, I think. I know I got a great one of his hands on the soprano sax & one of him playing the flute.

Did some editing in Camera+ so it looks less like there were stage lights shining right at us. :) Which of course there were. Ask me how hard it was to NOT touch his little beard twisties.

16 Hours

Last night I pulled my first ever 16 hour shift. Wheeeeeeee!

I went in at 7pm and took my patient team as usual. It was a very busy night but not so much that I couldn't handle it, even "over the grid" (our term for the fact that I was carrying one patient more than the standard for our floor). We were all pitching in & doing pretty good about things. The end of the shift came, and yay! It was time to turn it over to the day shifties.

But the day shifties were all in a muddle. You see, they had one single nurse's assistant for the entire floor and NO unit secretary. With a thousand doctors coming in, making rounds, and writing orders, it was more than the nurses could do to keep up with both patient care AND order entry. C, the PCM, was acting as the secretary but she was going to have to leave for a meeting shortly. I didn't have to go back in tonight, so I took a deep breath, and offered to stay. She blinked at me, then called our director, E. E said it was fine as long as I didn't stay past 10:45 (which would be longer than 16 hours; not only is that a pretty illegally long shift, it's also double-time, and I don't think our floor can afford to pay double-time, especially to an RN).  When E walked by the desk about 20 minutes later, the actual quote was "Hillary, it's so nice of you to stay over to be the UIC! DON'T CLOCK OUT PAST 10:45." :D

I did a bunch of orders, scanned a bunch of stuff to pharmacy, put in instructions to move one patient to the ICU, and took orders to transfer another patient out of the ICU. T, another night shifty RN, came in at about 10:15 after her ACLS class & offered to stay after I had to leave. C was very happy about this. Night shifties to the day shift rescue!

I was exhausted at the end of it. I'm not sure how some people manage to pull 16-hour shifts consistently; I'm just not built for that kind of thing. I didn't even sleep well this afternoon; it was fitful & restless, and I fully plan on going to bed when Bryan does tonight and just sleep all the way through tomorrow (until the pest control dude comes to spray the house).

Oh, but I have a week of MUSICAL ADVENTURES coming up! Tonight, Bryan & I made the spontaneous decision to snag tickets to see Les Miserables in Memphis on Saturday night! I just printed the tickets. We splurged & went for best available, and we are now the proud owners of orchestra seats! We're Row K, 101-102. I'm pretty stoked about seeing Les Mis again. I've seen it twice; once in high school with our Gifted & Talented program, and once with my mom & sister a few years ago when it came through Memphis. I've never seen it with Bryan, though, and of course since it was a G/T thing all those years ago, it holds a big spot in my heart. :)

Then, after working Sunday-Tuesday, I have ANOTHER musical adventure...in Fayetteville! Bryan & I will be heading to Fayetteville on Thursday after he gets off work and seeing the Jeff Coffin Mu'tet again at George's! "Excited" does not cover my emotions regarding this. I categorically deny allegations I may have been dancing in the den waving the tickets around. This time, I plan on not being sick. In fact, I plan on taking my DSLR. Last time it was just iPhone pics because I was so weak I couldn't hold up my DSLR. I know Mr. Coffin himself is known to take pictures onstage with his own camera, and I must admit my dream shot for this show is to get a good picture of him taking a picture of something onstage. In a perfect world, I might even get a picture of him taking a picture in my direction. :D I'm not sure I can ask the universe for another shot at both his saxophones sitting in a perfect pool of light the way they were at the last show.  Whatever I come out with, it will be fun and an awesome adventure, and then it will be followed by more adventures in the Ozarks. We haven't decided if we're staying in Fayetteville or heading over to Eureka Springs. I'm leaning toward Eureka Springs...because FURTHER PHOTOGRAPHIC ADVENTURES, Y'ALL.
